SQN joins Sport in Mind Wellbeing Walks

October 10, 2022

Sports marketing agency SQN has joined forces with award-winning mental health charity Sport in Mind to support the organisation’s weekly Wellbeing Walks in Henley-on-Thames.

The free walks, which take place every Tuesday from 11am-noon, encourage people who are experiencing mental health problems to enjoy the great outdoors as part of their well-being and wellness routine.

As the UK’s leading mental health sports charity, Sport in Mind delivers physical activity projects in partnership with the NHS to aid recovery, promote mental well-being, improve physical health, combat social isolation, and empower people to move their lives forward in a positive direction.

SQN, whose mission is to showcase the power of purpose-led partnerships in sport, will help to deliver a Wellbeing Walk on behalf of the charity once a month as part of the company’s commitment to mental health awareness.

The agency’s Managing Director Chris Hughes, who has recently completed an online qualification in mental health first aid and mental health in the workplace, believes that organisations have a commitment to supporting charities close to home.

He said: “When I first saw that Sport in Mind was running Wellbeing Walks in Henley-on-Thames, I knew it was something that I wanted to support through our agency. I’ve long been a supporter of the charity but it’s rewarding to contribute to something on a more regular basis and to be part of something so impactful in the local area. We promote the power of purpose-led partnerships in sport, so the intention is for us to lead by example, while also encouraging our team to embrace the great outdoors as part of their own wellbeing plan.”

Sport in Mind Development Officer Beth Marriott said: “Sport in Mind exists to help improve the lives of people experiencing mental health problems through sport and physical activity. We’ve seen first-hand the positive impact physical activity can have on people’s mental health having supported the recovery of thousands of people each year. Our aim is to ensure that every single person in the country has the opportunity to improve their mental health through a physical activity session they enjoy. We are delighted that SQN will support us to deliver our Wellbeing Walks in Henley and look forward to getting more people to enjoy the beautiful Thames path each week.”

The Sport in Mind Wellbeing Walks are a free, weekly walk running every Tuesday from 11am-12pm. The group will meet by the benches outside the Henley Piazza (Mill Meadows) and is open to all abilities. It is a fun, relaxed group for people experiencing mental health problems, and lasts between 30 and 50 minutes. To find out more please go to www.sportinmind.org
